Before Leaving India

I recently got an offer from an MNC to work in Cyberjaya, one of the Malaysian IT hub (I like to mention that I am from India and here also I work with one of the biggest USA based MNC). It was really an excited time for me. I started dreaming of travelling to a foreign country. Although my excitement was faded once I told my parents about it. They were having concern of me of never returning back and leaving them alone in India. As everyone knows parent’s only happiness lies in their child happiness so they were later convinced with my promise to be always in touch with them and return back to India in few years.

With the mind set of moving to Malaysia for work I started hunting for necessary information related to visit like visa procedure, things to do and don’t, life style, climate, culture, etc. Malaysia is a country of mix culture with people from round the globe. There are places where when can easily find of the things he want and eatables are also mind blowing.

The first obstacle that I faced in the way was the approval letter from MDEC, Malaysia. It took nearly 4 weeks although usual time for it is 4 days to a week. Once I got it then even I cannot use it for visa as it was addressed to High Commission of Malaysia, Chennai and as I was living in New Delhi I cannot apply for single entry visa from here. I requested for a change of address which took another 1 week.  The time in between was although not wasted by me. I used to get information from Malaysian embassy regarding all the document s and fees required for the process. VFS Global helps in getting Malaysian visa in India. The person in charge of collecting application document was a soft spoken and friendly person (please do not carry with you any electronic gadget like laptop, tablet, pen drive, etc as these are not allowed in application office). The application was submitted and 1 week time was given for the collection.

From many expat blogs subscription and form following I got a lot of information of the process. These expat blog even help me to know people living in Malaysia and ready to help by answering quires. I even found an Indian who is going to work in the same city as of me. We soon exchange our number so that we can update each other for different processes. It is great to share knowledge of upcoming things then to find all by our self. Two person are better then one.

Within time (1 week) I got visa for single entry in Malaysia. Started packing for the big day to board the flight for new job and location. Things as looks fantasy later turns out to be a serious work. It is very hard to figure out what to take with you and what to leave behind. Medicine and other required things became priority to be packed first. As every flight have weight restriction so we need to be very cautious else will end up paying for extra luggage. I purchased some new clothes and sorted out some I already have according to the climate there (it is mostly summer there with a lot of rain with the absence of winter). I tried several rounds of packing by calculation of luggage weight so that it does not exceed the allowed limit.

Once the time came to adieu my previous company gave me a mix feeling. I was excited to go to Malaysia with my new job were as a sad feeling to leave your first company. Finally the day of me leaving India and to board the flight to new world came. My parents have came to ciao me. On the same day of leaving India I suddenly remember that I have still not had my currency converted. Actually earlier I was planning to get it converted at airport itself but somehow was convinced by few friends regarding bad conversion rate there. So I went to karol baag to money exchange and got the currency converted. To reach airport I took a cab from my place to International Airport with my parents. Due to heavy traffic I was late by 30 minutes as was expecting for opening of gate to enter but was a lot ahead of time of closer so it was not an issue.

I collected my boarding pass, check in my luggage, filled my immigration form and had my passport stamped by immigration officer for departure stamp and passed the security entrance. Still I have 1 hour and 30 minutes more before I can board the flight. I took a nice seat in airport waiting lounge with mobile charger near to me. This was the time to talk to my parents standing outside and to tell them I am inside now and will board flight soon. I told them to leave. Soon I called few of my other friends and relatives to talk before I enter in International roaming.

The flight was on scheduled time and I boarded it and took my seat which was in middle row but at extreme corner. The flight attendants and air hostages were friendly. I had my dinner there and took a nap. At regular interval of time I woke up and see the screen attached in front of my seat for flight position. Finally the caption announced that we are about to land. I was very excited to enter a new country.

I got out of the plane calmly with other passengers. The airport was new to me as well as most of the sign boards and instructions. I searched for the baggage collection point but was just lost after few directions. Then I got to know that there are two airports interlink and we need to collect baggage and have immigration stamped of arrival in Malaysia to another airport. A metro was linked to transport us there. I boarded the metro and queue up in immigration line. After the immigration stamping I collected my luggage and even purchased a new sim at airport itself. At taxi booking counter I booked a taxi to my place of stay which was booked by my new company.

Cyberjaya was nearly 40 km away from airport. The roads were in good condition with 2 tolls in between. The driver knows my place and took me to the entrance. I paid the driver and reach the reception which guided me to my room. It was a very beautiful single bedroom suit. As I was tired and want to sleep I quickly called my parents informed them that I reached safely. I wanted to rest for joining the company the next day.

Batu Caves

It was nearly three weeks of me being in Malaysia but had not left my office city of Cyberjaya. The first break came with the plan of going to Kuala Lampur (popularly known as KL). Me and my friend decided to visit the famous Hindu Cave temple “Batu Caves”. This temple is located at the exterior of KL. We started with the route analysis to reach as both of us were new to KL and have just little knowledge that we have gained from listening to people around our work place. A little notes about Batu Caves.   Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in the Gombak district, 13 kilometers (8 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu (Batu River), which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Rising almost 100 m above th...

Cyberjaya Lake

Very well said words by someone about weekend, "Creativity can release you from the limitations that the world has constructed around you; the everyday, mundane, 9-5 jail cell where everybody is waiting for the weekend to party so they can get outside of their head." Weekends are for fun and enjoyment. But this is not always true when you are in new country and don’t know anyone not the place. With few days of working in Malaysia and becoming friendly to the environment the most awaited day for everyone finally came. It was my first weekend in Malaysia. With very few friends and very little knowledge of the place I was not having any special plan for the weekend. Just to eat and remain in my apartment room watching TV or some good movie. It was about 2 pm and I was very comfortable in my bed watching movie on TV when one of my friend who have also came to Malaysia nearly the same time as of me called me. “Hello Harshit. Are you free today evening?” I replied in positive...

Exploring Phuket…

Phuket: The Arrival Recently I have traveled to  Phuket , Thailand. Although this is not my first city I have traveled in Thailand (earlier 2 years back traveled to Krabi) but this been a very special experience. The next nearest province is Krabi, to the east across Phang Nga Bay. Phuket is among the world’s finest  beach destinations , with fine white sands, nodding palm trees, glittering seas and lively towns. Without wasting time on description of Phuket let’s start our journey. The trip to Phuket was just a sudden decision of me and my wife while we were looking for something in budget(moreover for Indians Thai authority have  declared ...

Spirituality & Religion

Today while I was reading the newspaper I saw some post from one of the Religious Leader claiming that their Religion is more Spiritually related. I know every Religion claims to be based on Spirituality. Actually, Spirituality and Religion, both are very interconnected terms. Sometime one is for taken as the second. In earlier days the way to attain spirituality was through the following of the guidelines given in religion, but laterally it has derived itself apart from religion. I think this association of both in earlier days still misguide some. In the words of Yogi William Irwin Thompson, “Religion is not identical with spirituality; rather religion is the form spirituality takes in civilization.” What is Spirituality? Everyone have their own answer for this although all of them lead to one common point, the point where one achieves a true peace of mind of oneself. Spirituality for me means an ultimate or immaterial reality, an inner path enabling a person to discover the ...
